Rainy day at Bai Dinh Pagoda

large_938978_1428525605550.jpgOn we went to Ninh Binh, distance was pretty far, so it would take most of the morning to get there. Didn't start out too well, cloudy with a bit of rain. On our way to Ninh Binh we visited Bai Dinh Pagoda.

Bai Dinh Pagoda is a relatively new temple ground, build in 2003 and finished somewhere in 2010. It is one of the biggest Buddhism temple complex in Asia. There are said to be more then 500 statues in the hallways. The complex itself is beautiful to see. It is built like the older temples, with lots of hallways and smaller and bigger buildings, statues, a huge bell and drum. We only had an hour and a half to walk around, which in my opinion is by far not enough if you want to see all of it.

Too bad about the weather though, it was raiy so the parkinglot was full of mud.large_938978_14285256372295.jpg We had to walk to the entrance, where an electric car picked us up to drive us to the entrance of the pagoda. Walking from building to building wasn't much fun, and of course the pictures look a bit dull with the grey skies and the mist.

As i said i loved the architecture and the statues and everything around it. Unfortunately because it is so new, there aren't any monks and it doesn't have the old look and feel the other temples have that gives them a bit of extra history. And because we were there in the afternoon there were a lot of tourists ;)

After that it was on to our hottel close to Vinh. It was a simple hotel, but clean. Dinner was good, nothing else close by so that was the only option anyway...but it was good. So was the rice wine we tried after.
